I'm planting trees with every Personal Branding Photography session booked!
Exhale all the air from your lungs.
You’d be surprised how much stale air is in there.
Now, once you can’t let anymore out, take a GIANT deep breath in. Really fill up all corners of your chest. And with a satisfying exhale, give thanks to all the gorgeous trees that provided that beautiful oxygen to you. Did you think this was the beginning of a yoga post for a minute? That’s all good and fun too but we’re here to talk about TREES real quick. It's crazy easy to take our oxygen for granted! It's all coughs and complaints when it's polluted but do you ever take a moment to be grateful when you get a taste of that fresh, clean air?
I am a LOVER of forests. I’m from the “Evergreen State,” after all - the only state with a green flag! Trees, forests, foliage – they’ve always been home for me. When in the woods I can breathe deeper, think clearer, run farther. I get a state of calm and peace from forests that I just can’t find in any other environment. I feel sheltered and protected under a canopy of conifers.
I grew up across the street from a small forest, and on windy nights, I’d drift asleep to the sounds of the trunks creaking and squeaky in subtle protest. I remember little from my first very house, but I see that gorgeous birch tree in the backyard when I close my eyes.
Now (Sept 2020), the west coast of the US – my home – is plagued yearly with awful wildfires, decimating forests, destroying homes, and damaging the air quality of my friends and family. (The photo on the left depicts active wildfires in my home state of Washington at the time of writing this in September 2020.)
So when I was brainstorming ways to give back, and having a look at how other small business commit to charities, I decided that one of the greatest ways to help not only the planet, but also as many of her lovely creatures as possible, would be to fund reforestation to help fight climate change.
I found a local UK-based company called Ecologi, and with a small recurring fee, they plant a dozen trees each month, and remove 10 tonnes of CO2 annually. It feels so good to know that I’m helping the environment, as well as helping grow forests for other people to enjoy. While the reforestation project is in another part of the world, I’m thrilled to be part of the solution.
This is all to tell you why I chose to plant trees for every Personal Branding Session booked. Depending on your package, my forest, The Wild Kindom, grows by clumps of 25 or thickets of 50! By working with me, you’re helping fight climate change AND getting gorgeous images!
