If you're planning for your Personal Branding Photoshoot to take place in your space, you'll want to have a look at these tips to prepare!
Shooting in your space is a great way to capture your personality, surrounded by the tidbits of your life. That said, if your life is anything like mine, things can get a little hectic and dare I say, "messy." While that can be endearing, make sure you have your space ready for whatever stories we're going to tell - maybe that includes a messy workspace. That's perfect if that's the dialog! What we don't want is the level of mess to distract from a different story you want captured.
Here are some tips to make sure your space is prepped before I arrive:
Tidy the Space
De-clutter the areas around your house (office, studio, garden, etc.) we will be shooting. These will be the areas we agreed have the best light. If you don't want it in the picture, stow it away. We're not looking for a sterile look so don't worry about going too crazy. Incorporating things from your house is endearing so what we're after is just a freshening up to make sure nothing is dirty or completely out of place for the photos.
Is there anything special in your house you'd like to incorporate?
Oh, and count on me moving furniture and perhaps climbing on (approved) things so we can get shots with the best light and angles!
Find Some Flowers
Brighten up your room and add life to your images by having a fresh bouquet or two throughout the space. Flowers create gorgeous accents by adding pops of color and can come in handy if we need to add textures to a flatlay. Not into flowers? Look into a bouquet of greenery such as eucalyptus and ferns. If you have allergies, there are a number of dried flower florist who do a fantastic job!
Natural Light is Where it's At
Using natural light over artificial is ALWAYS my preferred way to shoot. It's more flattering, and it saves energy! That's why we chat about time of day and direction of your windows. Our goal is ambient light that fills the room with softness, rather than harsh rays of sun paired with dark shadows, so shut off those lights and throw open the curtains!
Extra Tips for Mental Preparation!
Indulge in Self-Care
Being in a good mental space is incredibly helpful as you prepare for our session. What improves your mental state? Soaking in a bath with your favorite oils? Maybe it's eating raw, or exercising in the week leading up to your shoot. I know it can be challenging to make time for yourself, but I guarantee, you'll look at the photos from your Branding Photoshoot with way more fondness if you're in a positive state of mind than if you're not.
Get Your Playlist Ready!
Music is such a powerful tool! It does wonders to help us get out of our heads and into the groove. Do you have a playlist that makes you feel powerful and strong? If not, don't worry, I've got you covered with mine.
