This shoot came about through the power of online networking and creating honest connections.
In 2024 I took an online course on Unit Stills Photography - learning how to be an on-set photographer for BTS and movie posters and as a result went straight to LinkedIn & Instagram to build connections and meet people in the industry.
Faye Newton wrote back and turns out we have some common friends...and she's incredible!
Since those first messages, I've photographed her and her co-owner sister, Claire, did some drone scouting for a big Hollywood film, helped her out with setting up her online event waitlist, networked at one of their events, and attended their TV & Film location training day.
She's become a friend and I look back on how nerve-wracking it can be to reach out to new people and I'm so grateful to have taken the leap!
Who Are Liverpool Locations - Film & TV Location Managers & Scouts?
Liverpool Locations is run by sisters Claire and Faye Newton—absolute icons in the world of UK & Liverpool film and TV locations.
They've been scouting and managing locations for decades, working on huge productions like The Batman, Peaky Blinders, and Fantastic Beasts.
They're especially good at "cheating" Liverpool into looking like a variety of global locations: New York, London, Chicago, Moscow, and more, which brings a lot of productions to the northwest of England.
But what makes them really stand out is that they're deeply rooted in Liverpool and genuinely passionate about giving back—offering hands-on training and creating community-led events for crew and creatives.
It's not just about finding the right street or house for a shoot—they're building a more connected, inclusive industry.
Key Goals for the Shoot:
The goals of this particular shoot evolved throughout the planning process and even on the day.
What started as a larger plan turned into working with different angles of the rented venue, and Faye even invited her sister along to get headshots together, ready for press features and web updates.
They were so fun to work with - especially when the flamingos came out!
A Sneaky Peek at their Shotlist
Here's a sneak peek at just a few of Faye's desired shots we created after planning their shoot together. Have a scroll through below to see how they turned out.
Individual and duo headshots
Relaxed, professional
Checking out - "scouting" the space
Holding tape measure and camera
In a director style chair
With their iconic pink blow-up flamingos
The scale of the warehouse space
"On-set" look with some lighting equipment in background
What's with the Flamingos?
I asked the sisters about their blow-up flamingos during the shoot and they referenced Steven Bartlett and the "absurdity" of his giant ball pit - how it allowed him to stand out, be a conversation starter and gain attention and press features - pretty brilliant, right??
Why we Chose Scale Liverpool
Scale Liverpool is a gorgeous former print warehouse in the Fabric District of Liverpool and it captures that old look that many of the city's buildings have in common.
It's a large space commonly used for events and weddings and after the shoot, both Faye and Claire, and myself went on to book the venue for separate events we hosted.
It's absolutely stunning and I'm so grateful to have been able to photograph multiple clients in that space.
Final Thoughts
This shoot was specifically epic because of the dedication that my clients put into it.
They took the time to:
✺ book an incredible venue
✺ consider story-telling props: tape measure, camera, flamingos
✺ grab new wardrobe items that made them feel camera-ready
