Should you rent a studio or styled space for your personal branding photoshoot?
Planning a personal branding shoot? One of the biggest decisions you'll make is where it should happen—and honestly, location can make or break the whole experience.
You might be wondering if your home or usual workspace will do the trick. And in some cases, it can. But more often than not, booking a beautiful, intentional photography studio rental or styled space can help you get the most out of your investment. It's aspirational, abundant, and photoready!
Let’s walk through why and how to choose a space that actually works for you.
Why the photoshoot location matters more than you think
Your brand photos are telling a story—your story. And every element, from lighting to backdrop, either adds to that or distracts from it. The location plays a huge role in how professional and aligned your photos feel.
When you choose a dedicated space, like a styled studio or well-lit Airbnb, you create room to focus. No reminders of dishes or emails. No unexpected mess in the background. Just a blank canvas you can syle and shape to reflect your brand.
Should you book a photography studio rental for your brand shoot?
A photography studio rental (or a styled indoor space) offers a controlled, versatile environment—one that allows your photographer to work more efficiently and gives you space to feel grounded, calm, and camera-ready.
Here’s why so many of my clients opt to rent a studio, Airbnb, or coworking loft:
A quiet, private space helps you ease into the shoot without distractions
No weather stress—rain, harsh sun, or wind won’t throw off your shoot plan
Room for outfit changes, makeup touch-ups, and creative props
Beautiful lighting and multiple vignettes (think: kitchen, sofa, workspace)
A styled backdrop that instantly levels up the aesthetic of your photos
The chance to treat the shoot like a mini getaway or creative retreat
And yes—rented locations can usually be expensed to your business!
What to look for in a brand shoot location rental
Whether you’re browsing Airbnb, styled shoot spaces, or coworking studios, here are the essentials:
1. Clean and Tidy (But Not Sterile)
We want a space that looks fresh, intentional, and clutter-free—but still feels like you. Think minimal, not clinical. You’ll be bringing your own props, wardrobe, and personality, so the space should leave room for that.
2. Open and Spacious
Choose a location that isn’t too narrow so your photographer has room to move around. This also allows for wide shots (perfect for website banners) and natural lifestyle moments.
3. Styled, But Still a Blank Canvas
Look for neutral walls, light flooring, and minimal decor so your brand colours and personality can shine. A few throw pillows and plants? Great. A maximalist, themed interior? Maybe not.
4. Soft, Natural Light
Lighting is everything. Big windows with soft, ambient light (not direct sun) are best. If possible, check what direction the windows face, or ask your photographer to weigh in before you book.
5. Room for Your Photographer’s Gear
Lenses, light stands, backdrops—it all takes space. Make sure there’s enough room for your photographer to set up and move comfortably.
6. Instagrammable Touches
Bonus points if the space has cute nooks, textured walls, styled corners, or furniture you’d actually want to post in front of.
7. Proximity to Other Key Locations
Think ahead. If you want shots in your favourite park, café, or creative space, look for a rental nearby. That way we can walk or pop over mid-shoot without wasting time.
8. A Personal Reset
Many clients love the feel of waking up in a bright Airbnb and easing into the shoot day. It’s private, relaxing, and creates separation from work or home tasks. Sometimes it feels more like a retreat than a workday—and that energy totally shows up in your photos.
What to avoid in your shoot rental booking
Overly styled or themed spaces that don’t match your brand
Busy, cluttered homes that are hard to “neutralize”
Hotels with basic furnishings and poor lighting (unless it's really well-designed)
Booking too little time—everything always takes longer than you expect
Loud public coworking spaces with limited privacy
When in doubt, ask your photographer to review the space before you commit.
Where to find brand photoshoot location rentals
There are some incredible spaces out there that rent by the hour or night. Here are a few of my favourite platforms for finding photography studios rental options in the UK and beyond:

Your brand shoot is an investment—so it makes sense to set yourself up for success. Renting a space doesn’t have to be expensive or elaborate, but it does need to be intentional.
