7 Simple Ways to Prep Your Indoor Space for a Brand Photoshoot
If we’ve decided your home or indoor personal space is the right setting for your photoshoot—amazing. It means we’re leaning into something that already feels like you.
While we do want your personality and energy to shine through, we also want to make sure the space supports your brand—not distracts from it. Sure, we all love a dose of realism, but in a brand shoot, it's best if we start with a clean and professional space and add in those "behind the scenes" elements as we need them.
So, if you’re planning to shoot at home (or in your studio, office, or any indoor space), here are a few easy things you can do to get it photo-ready:
Make sure the lighting is amazing
Natural light is your best friend. The softer and more even it is, the better your photos will look.
Before shoot day, take a peek around your space and note when the light looks best in each room. If you’re not sure, I’ll help guide you—but knowing where your windows are and when the light hits right is a huge help for planning. We can always supplement with artificial light if needed, but starting with great natural light makes a big difference.
Tidy up and hide the distractions
We’re not going for a show home here—we want it to look lived-in, not lifeless. That said, clearing away any mess or visual distractions helps keep the focus on you.
Think of it like a mini declutter. Wipe down surfaces, hide laundry piles or rogue chargers, and straighten things up. Leave the beautiful details—books, candles, cozy textures—things that feel like you and fit the vibe of your brand.
Gather your tools
Bring in the items that represent your work and your brand. Laptops, notebooks, your favorite pens, a few props in your brand colours—even a Post-it or two with a quote you love.
If you always have a specific mug nearby or light a candle when you work, include it. These little things help tell your story and give your photos context that feels real.
Grab some greenery
A few houseplants or a simple bouquet can go a long way in making the space feel fresh and intentional. They’re also a great way to add colour and texture—especially if we’re doing any flatlays or close-up shots.
Not a flower person? Try eucalyptus or dried florals. Even a leafy corner plant can soften a shot and hide things like plug sockets or scuffed skirting boards.
Pop the kettle on
It might sound random, but having a warm drink in your hands during the shoot can help you feel more grounded and relaxed. Plus, it gives your hands something to do (which is one of the biggest on-camera nerves people have). This is one we want to go easy on though because EVERYONE is doing it.
Bonus points if the mug matches your brand or has a fun little message on it.
Actually get to work
Some of the best brand photos happen when you’re simply doing your thing. Checking emails, sketching an idea, journaling, laying out client packages—whatever makes up your day, we’ll capture it.
These behind-the-scenes moments are where the magic happens. They show people the real side of your brand—and that’s what helps you connect.
Include personal touches
If there’s something in your space that holds meaning—family photos, artwork, a well-worn book, a keepsake from a client—let’s bring it into the frame. These touches help your audience feel closer to you, and they’re a beautiful way to show the heart behind your brand.
Final thoughts on getting your indoor space ready for your brand photoshoot
You don’t need a picture-perfect space to get stunning, on-brand images. You just need a bit of prep, some thoughtful styling, and the confidence to show up as yourself.
And if you do end up going on a lil shopping raid (as some clients like to do), make sure you expense everything!
